

Since 2007, the Gotcha’Back has provided over 8,000 backpacks with school supplies to area students. In addition to receiving free backpacks and school supplies, they also get to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment, food, games and most of all motivation for the new school year. This event has had steady growth as the needs and popularity within the community have expanded. We have relied on support from various corners of our community and countless volunteers to make the giveaway possible. The tools needed to succeed in the classroom can be an enormous burden for many families with stretched budgets, as well as teachers, and we are dedicated to doing our part of ensuring every child has the best learning opportunity.
This year's event will take place on August 16, 2025, beginning at 11am inside the Crown Exposition Center, 1960 Coliseum Drive. This free event has something in store for the entire family.
On this day, thegroupTheory, Inc. will also host the
8th Annual HBCU College Fair and Experience with a host of colleges and universities sharing information, admission requirements, and recruiting students. Since 2017, this event has been supported by the
Beta Chi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Alongside community resource providers, this event will feature college readiness and financial aid sessions. And of course, the event will feature a drumline, and other highlights of the HBCU experience from current and past students and graduates.
Last year, the Fayetteville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. hosted a Candidate's Fair during the event and providing a platform for individuals that are campaign for public office have the opportunity to speak directly and candidly with voters in an informal setting. This effort returns this year to assist the community with learning more about those who have decided to step into leadership roles that make pivotal and important decisions for our citizens.
